Peoples Democrartic Party Retreat:David Mark Sues For Unity

  • Calls for credible Opposition david mark sues
  • PDP govs alarms over plot to forcefully impeach Ayo Fayose

The president of the senate and chairman of the National Assembly, senator David Mark has called for unity among  members of the peoples democratic party(PDP).

He made this call in port Harcourt the Rivers State capital on monday, June1st ,2015 at a retreat organised by the PDP forum for the PDP members elect at the Presidential Hotel.

Themed' The role of the opposition in facilitating Development and Good Governance', Mark lamented the dipping fortune of the party which he said ignored the ominious signs and imminent danger while taking a lot of things for granted. He warned against jumping ship and enjoined the membership to provide credible  and constuctive opposition in furtherance of Nigerias democracy.

In the same vein, the Deputy senate President ,Ike Ekweremadu in his

keynote address restated the need to come together to 'learn and properly rehears the new dance steps before we enter the village square'.

Reechoing the senate presiden, Ekweremadu lamented that,' In 1999, the PDP had a comfortable majority with 214 seats in the House of Representatives. It peaked at 263 in 2007 and dropped in to 208 and 137 in 2011 and 2015, respectively. The loss of a whooping 55 seats in 2011and 2015 should have set the alarm ringing in the party. Even in the gubernatorial elections, the drop from 28 states which the PDP controlled in 2003 and 2007, to 23 by 2011 was enough sign that all was not well. It should have served as a catalyst for rescue mission before it plummeted'.

Meanwhile, the PDP governors forum has called on President muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the political upheaval in Ekiti state where it alleged the 19 House of Assebly members were camped in a neighbouring state, preparatory to entering Ekiti state to forcefully impeach Governor Ayo Fayose contrary to a subsisting court order.
