Taxation: Public Accounts Committee Canvasses Stringent laws During Oversight

The senate committee on public accounts has canvassed stringent laws to guide taxation. Led by its Chairman, Senator Emmanuel Andy Uba, the sen pub acctspublic accounts Committee visited the Accountant General’s Office.

In their interaction with the Accountant General Mr Idris Ahmed, the committee canvassed stringent laws to guide the tax regime with punishment for offenders considering the recourse to tax as the first alternative to boost government revenue in the face of dwindling oil revenue.

Also, the committee visited the Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) where it asked questions on the success of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

It is recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari initiated the Single Treasury Account (TSA) to nip corruption, encourage accountability and accurate financial data for planning and expenditure for the government as well as the introduction of stamp duty for banking transactions and other services to boost government revenue in the immediate.
