Rt. Hon. Hajia Monsurat Jumoke Sumonu

Oyo Central Senatorial District is interested in Women & Youth Empowerment & Diaspora Affairs: As the Speaker of monsuratjumokethe Oyo State Assembly which is just a background and the beginning of what I actually want for my people that I will be representing and Nigeria as a whole.

At the State House of Assembly I have been able to contribute majorly in women affairs and also, we need to look into violence against women. How we have to look after our children; what the youths want because we believe that the young shall grow and more particularly looking after the youths in this country and more so I believe that it will be a continuation of what I am doing presently at the state level.

Coming into the senate , I have to look into the Bills that have been passed and considered, and also consider bringing more new bills and looking critically into Executive Bills to see which ones will favour women, which will favour the youths and Nigeria as a whole. I will be much interested in the Diaspora.

How do we consider people that are Nigerians but that do not live in the country? What do we have for them? Are we going to say they are not part of us or are we trying to bring them in? In other countries like the UK, people that are British citizens have the opportunity to participate in the governance of their country. What do we have for Nigerians that are outside? These are part of things that will interest me joining the Senate and also oversight functions as they have said, we have to look into checks and balances to see that there are changes in so many things and bring Nigeria forward among all other African countries.’
